I see it as a movie of blurred reality, I’m performing these songs for you but in another way, is it really happening? You’ll see/hear songs from the recent albums Songs From The Apartment & Time Out For Tomorrow, all the way to the beginning with “Ratatat” from my debut album (Jerry Leger & The Situation, 2005). These performances are mixed with poetry readings (from my book of poems Just The Night Birds, released last October) set to motion pictures of my memories and neighborhood.
The title of the film is a nod to the great Canadian production, Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave, in which we see Hank make that date he was on his way to play New Year’s Eve, 1952. Of course, in reality, he died in the back of his Cadillac but in the blurred reality of art, anything is possible.
Hank Williams is one of my all-time favourites and I still have my grandfather’s VHS copy of this movie. Most of the poems I read in my film reference Hank or they reference what’s inside of me.
All of the audio in this movie was recorded straight to tape on a 1981 Tascam (TEAC) 4-track. This beautiful machine was gifted to me during this pandemic and it came at a great time. Besides demoing a truckload of new songs, I thought it would be cool to use it for this project, give it a unique sound. I was so happy with the results that I’m releasing the soundtrack in my Bandcamp store.
The soundtrack will be released June 18th and when you pre-order it, you’ll get an exclusive download of “Born In Time”, a song by another all-time favourite of mine, Bob Dylan.

Just before I go, I’d also like to let you know about a great podcast out of Winnipeg I was on recently called The Northern Report with fellow artist, Sean Burns. He caught me in a chatty mood, discussing my music from the beginning up to now. Listen to the other episodes too, I’ve personally been enjoying them:
